A Reason To Smile

Vivian Brunson is always smiling -- that positive attitude recently earned her an award from General Motors.
Congratulations to Vivian Brunson, Service Writer at Heritage Chevy Buick, for winning 5th place in GM’s Northeast Region Service Advisor Walk Around Video Challenge.
The Walk Around Video Challenge tasks service employees with taking a video of a service lane walk around on a customer’s vehicle. By GM’s standards, some key aspects of a great video includes a friendly meet and greet, taking care of the customer’s details and questions, walking the vehicle from the right front to the left front, checking tire treads, thanking the customer for their business, and communicating what time their service will be complete and how to reach them.
“I try my best to make every guest – every time they visit – feel relaxed from the time they pull into the service lane until the time they leave,” Vivian said. “My video highlighted how I welcome guests, my attention to detail and my ability to explain to the customer what I’m checking as I perform the walk around.”
How did you get into the automotive industry?
I started in the car business in 1995 as a cashier at R&H Toyota. At the time, I viewed it as just a job, but after being there for a while I realized that I loved the environment and how busy it was, and that every day I was able to have a different experience. I’ve been at Chevrolet since October of 2015.
What advice would you offer to another MileOne employee?
I’ve learned over time that patience, listening and having compassion is the best way to get and keep customers’ loyalty. I treat people as I would like to be treated – customers should never be aware if/when I'm having a bad day. A smile goes a long way! I’ve shared that with all the team members I have trained.
Who inspires you as a leader?
My Mom – she raised four children of her own, and a couple of the neighborhood children. She worked two jobs, and always came home and cooked dinner, made sure we did our homework, and made time for us individually when we needed it. There were many days when I look back and wonder how she made it through all of that and still smiled like she did and continues to do now. She inspires me every day to push forward, work hard and never give up.
