Where should you go for care?
Primary Physician
Physician offices provide routine care and treatment for a current health issue. Your primary physician knows your history, can easily access your medical records, provide preventive care and manage your medications. Make an appointment with your primary physician for:
- Routine checkups
- Immunizations
- Preventive services
- General health
Convenience Clinics
Convenience clinics, like the MinuteClinic located in CVS pharmacies, are designed to provide fast, appointment-free health care for minor illnesses and injuries. When you cannot see your primary physician quickly, clinics can help with:
- Common infections
- Minor skin conditions
- Flu shots
- Physicals
- Ear aches
Urgent Care Centers
Similar to convenience clinics, urgent care centers can handle care when your primary physician is not available. Urgent care centers are equipped to handle the same ailments as convenience clinics, plus:
- Sprains and strains
- Minor broken bones (i.e. finger)
- Minor infections
- Minor burns
- X-rays
Emergency Rooms (ER)
Emergency rooms are designed for people with serious health issues. You should go to the ER immediately for:
- Heavy bleeding
- Large open wounds
- Sudden change in vision
- Chest pain
- Sudden weakness and/or trouble talking
- Major burns
- Spinal injuries
- Severe head injuries
- Difficulty breathing
- Major broken bones
