BMW of Catonsville Takes Care of their Own

BMW of Catonsville not only focuses on taking care of their customers, but takes care of their own as well. When it was brought to General Manager David Lee’s attention that a longtime employee was diagnosed with cancer, he knew that he and his team had to help in some way.

Alaina Fernholz joined the BMW dealership in 2006 as the counterperson in the parts department and quickly became an essential part of the team. She became the go-to person for questions about anything and everything, and, according to David, has been one of the best employees anyone could hope for.

Alaina's story begins with a diagnosis of lung cancer in April 2018. She immediately underwent surgery to remove her upper right lung and initially believed she was cancer-free after her post-op visit. Unfortunately, she developed problems with walking several months later and was given the devastating news that her cancer had metastasized to her brain. 

She recently underwent radiation therapy - five grueling sessions lasting three hours each. She will return to her oncologist in a few weeks to see if the radiation has shrunk her tumor and to determine whether or not she will require further treatment.

Alaina’s family is struggling under the weight of all of the medical bills that cancer treatment entails. David, in an effort to help unburden her family in this tragic time, set up a GoFundMe page and his Catonsville team is helping out.
