Get to know your co-workers! Each newsletter we will be highlighting a different member of the marketing team. This month’s highlighted team member is Peter Bakalsi, Graphic Designer .
1. Where did you grow up? Plovdiv, Bulgaria
2. Do you have siblings? Where do they live and what are they doing with their life? One older brother who lives in in White Marsh, MD and currently works for CallRevu as a Systems Administrator. He’s basically a taller, more bearded version of me.
3. What were your extra-curriculars in high school? Art workshops and soccer
4. What college did you go to? Academy of Art University in San Francisco
5. What was your major? Illustration
6. Where do you get your creative instincts from, and how so? My parents tell me I’ve been drawing since before I was able to walk. Apparently, I used to just doodle and color on everything I could, and would throw toys aside to continue doing it for hours. My dad is pretty creative and artistically inclined, and my grandmother is an architect, so the creative gene must run in the family.
7. Where have you worked before MileOne? I started my first job at 16 and worked at McDonalds for a little bit. Since then I have worked in dry cleaning, 4 years in Panera Bread, 5 years at Wegmans and a few Graphic Design contracts. I have also been freelancing as an Illustrator since 2012, doing family portraits and fantasy art commissions. Some examples of my work are below.
8. What is your favorite kind of music? It varies from day to day, but I listen to a lot of Rap and EDM. I like all kinds of music, just have to be in the right mood.
9. What was your favorite concert? I don’t really go to concerts…just not my thing.
10. What are your favorite sports teams? Manchester United. Red Devil since 1995!
11. What is your favorite food? Pretty much anything my grandmother cooks…and steak. Definitely steak.
12. What is your favorite vacation spot and the best things to do while there? Bulgaria, but I might be biased. I always spend a lot of time with extended family, but my favorite thing to do there is enjoy the food and scenery. Plovdiv is over 2000 years old, so there are a lot of really cool, centuries-old buildings and neighborhoods that have been converted to restaurants, cafes and museums. There’s also a lot of ancient Byzantine and Roman ruins in the city and surrounding mountains that are just an hour away by car, so I like to go out and explore those as well.
13. What are the top 3 things on your bucket list? Race on the Nurburgring Nordschleife race track in Germany, Ski in the French Alps, Explore New Zealand
14. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? New Zealand
15. If you could have a discussion with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why? Niel deGrasse Tyson, because even though he is way smarter than me, I feel like he’s the type of person you could talk to about anything you want, and it would be great conversation.
16. What is your favorite car? It’s a tie between a 965 Porsche 911 RS 3.8 and the Porsche 918 Spyder
17. How do you usually spend your weekends? I’m always doing something with my friends and family. Usually I just try to spend as much time outside as I can, and Sundays I play soccer in a local league.
18. What is your favorite thing about yourself? I’d say my sarcasm, because it makes me laugh and that’s all that really matters.
19. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why? Probably something like an eagle or a falcon, because I could go anywhere and see everything.
20. What are your top 3 favorite movies? Watchmen: Extended Edition, Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction
21. What are your pet peeves? Anything that’s not in its proper place. Things that are uneven that should be even. Anything that doesn’t work as described. Repetitive noises (taps, ticks, creaks, etc). The amount of pet peeves I have.
