How MileOne is Accelerating Interest in the Automotive Business

The passionate recruiting team of MileOne is working on new and innovative ways to grow our team of top notch technicians and employees. We’re doing this in a number of ways, from starting partnerships with specific high school automotive programs to nurturing an interest in the automotive spectrum in middle schoolers.

Discussing the Future of the Auto Industry at McDaniel College

MileOne CMO Mark Westerman visited McDaniel College and spoke at a lecture to a Consumer Behavior class on how marketing in the automotive industry has developed over the years.

“Our marketing team utilizes the tools to implement fact-based decision making,” Mark said. “We’ve developed our business intelligence and creative capabilities to become true leaders and innovators in the field.”

Mark discussed with the students the branding of MileOne and the process behind our 2017 rebrand with a goal of clearly differentiating the MileOne brand from the competition.

An amazing result of this visit was interest from students in joining the MileOne marketing team. One of the students is now slated to be a 2019 summer intern in the Hall marketing department.

Partnering with Local High Schools

Corporate recruiter Courtney Zacharias, along with Heritage Service and Parts Directors Mike Zalowski, Jason Tauber and Mike Schildt met with Baltimore high school counselors and teachers from Sollars Point Technical High School, Western School of Technology, Milford Mill Academy and Carroll County Technical to create a universal training system for students who choose to study in an automotive track. The partnership includes coursework, shadowing and lunch and learns. The students will take their junior and senior year co-ops at MileOne service centers and work with our service folks in a mentoring program geared specifically to the high school program already in place.

Junior Achievement

When did you know your passions? Was there a distinct moment when your interests changed? For many, our passions developed in middle school and grew from there. With that in mind, what better avenue to instill a love for the automotive industry than in middle schoolers?

Our recruiting team met with 3,000 middle school students through the Junior Achievement Program who were bussed in from all over Baltimore County and introduced them to careers in the automotive industry. We are currently in talks with the group to institute dealership tours, speaking events at the schools, and more. Junior Achievement’s purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
