Tech Guru, Rich Gibbons

At MotorWorld, if you have a technology question – Rich Gibbons is your guy.

Rich Gibbons, IT Director at MotorWorld, has been with the company for an impressive 40 years. He started back in 1976 with David Ertly, Inc. running the car wash, and has since worked in various roles at several different locations. Eventually, Rich landed in the IT department in the early 1990’s.

As IT Director, Rich manages and maintains all computer, phone and internet issues at MotorWorld. If you’ve got a tech issue or question – Rich is your guy. He also oversees all hardware and software issues, manages technical support and implements special technology projects, such as DRIVE updates.

As if solving MotorWorld’s tech problems weren’t enough, Rich is also a member of the Catholic Choral Society of Scranton, where he assumes all IT duties and records their concerts and performances. Rich is both active and engaged at MotorWorld and in his local community, where his family has roots dating back to the 1860’s.

When you are not at work, where can we find you? Doing what?
I also work at the local arena where I follow the Pittsburgh Penguins AHL team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. I spend a lot of time with my family – ice skating, home gardening, baking and cooking. I’m always working on remodeling my house, too, which has been in my family for generations.

Where is the best place you’ve lived and why?
My current residence in Hunlock Creek, PA in a home that’s been in my family since the 1860’s. I enjoy the history of the house and knowing my great-great grandparents lived there at one time is an enjoyable feeling. It’s located in a rural area surrounded by nature and wildlife.

Favorite vacation spot?
I don’t travel too often, but recently took a long weekend trip to Colorado, and enjoyed every second. The Rocky Mountains, Pikes Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Garden of the Gods, the Stanley Hotel…amazing sights! I also got to sing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” with my best friend at Red Rocks, which is known for its outdoor concerts.
